KONOS Administration

Director, English teacher
B.A. biology, M.S. counseling from Syracuse University, is 16-year home-schooling mom, teacher, counselor, co-author of the KONOS CURRICULUM and author of writing curriculum. She founded the KONOS ACADEMY OF PRAGUE, an international Christian worldview secondary school. She currently directs KONOS ACADEMY (KONOS KIDS, KONOS JUNIORS, KONOS ACADEMY), teaches at the academy, and counsels parents.

Graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Brown University and Masters degree in Pastoral Divinity from the Log College at Heritage Church. John, with his wife Joanne, co-founded Grace Christian Academy, a classical Christian school in NY, and served as its principal, Bible and literature teacher until moving to Georgia in 2001. He is the homeschooling dad of five children, all of whom have attended or still attend Konos.

Teacher of Konos Kids, Accreditation and College Guidance Counselor
Holly Hampton, B.S. Florida State University, will make sure that your student has all the course requirements needed to graduate in the state of Georgia, and those courses will be reflected on an accredited transcript. She will also assist with the college application process, testing reminders, assistance with dual enrollment, NCAA application liaison, and the qualifying process for the HOPE scholarship, along with maintaining the accreditation status for KONOS Academy with Georgia Accrediting Commission(GAC).

Dana received her Ph.D. in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia. She has worked as assistant professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, counselor at AlphaCare Christian Counseling in Atlanta, Children’s Ministry Director at Intown Community Church, author of Strong-Willed Child or Dreamer, and home-school mom for 14 years. She has directed numerous plays through community theater groups and Konos, and now works as an educational consultant in addition to teaching. She has three graduates of Konos Academy.

Renee sees her greatest accomplishments in her acts of service: to God (missionary 1997-2015), to her country (Army 1988-1994), to her husband (since 1995), and to her children (since 1998). She sees mentors and role models as strategically important in the lives of our youth, and feels privileged to serve KONOS using her administrative skills.

Ph.D. in chemistry from Iowa State University, post-doctoral studies in history of science at Harvard University and molecular biology at Brandeis University, and home-school dad for 16 years, co-authored The Mystery of Life’s Origin and The Soul of Science (both translated into several languages) and has lectured worldwide. He currently lectures weekly at KONOS ACADEMY and speaks at conferences and seminars.

B.S. in Business Marketing from Long Island University and MBA from St. John’s University, worked as an underwriter/speech writer before she and her husband John co-founded Grace Christian Academy, a classical Christian school in Merrick, NY. The Lees home school their five children, four of whom have attended Konos programs. Along with teaching and assisting with the plays, this is her fifth year with KONOS Communicators.

B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida, former proofreader and teacher’s aide, Bible study teacher, Children’s Choir director, Sunday school teacher, and homeschool mom for the past 9 years. Her daughter, Lauren, attended Konos Kids and the opportunity to assist parents who desire to home-educate their children with the help of Konos is a dream come true.   Tiffany is eager to help her students understand God’s sovereignty over all the earth as they study Geography and Culture together. “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it; for He founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” Ps. 24:1-2.

KONOS Kids Teachers

Head teacher of KONOS Kids
Undergraduate degree and Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama. This is Norma’s 11th year of teaching Konos Kids and she loves teaching elementary students. Norma home-schooled for several years,  led children’s choir at her church, and has been the coordinator of Camp Chippaway for 15 years.

Bachelors in Physics from the University of Texas and taught high school physics and physical sciences both in the public schools and for home schoolers. She has home schooled for more than 15 years.

Doug Dunklin is a retired Army Colonel with an undergraduate degree from North Georgia College and a Masters degree from the US Army War College.  He has been teaching and instructing young people on a variety of subjects for over 30 years.  Doug has produced two feature-length films with local home-schooled students, and has been a home-school dad for 15 years.  He has two children who have both graduated from Konos Academy.

American Sign Language teacher
B.A. in Literature:  Cultural Studies from SUNY Empire State College, Susan continued studies at Hofstra University for qualifying training to work with the deaf.  Her childhood growing up alongside a deaf brother and immersion in the deaf community through the Long Island Church of the Deaf conditioned Susan to work for several years as a job coach and interpreter for the deaf. After relocating to Georgia, Susan home schooled her four children over a period of twelve years. Since 2012 she has provided instruction in American Sign Language (“ASL”). Expressing poetry, stories, and hymns/spiritual songs in ASL is Susan’s specialty and remains her favorite pastime in American Sign Language study.

BA Indiana University with a double major in Spanish and Italian, and a minor in French, was born in Cuba. Besides Spanish teaching and tutoring, she has worked in retail analysis, buying and managing. She was a homeschool mom for 26 years, teaching her five children.

Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Pathobiology with an emphasis in Marine Biomedicine and Environmental Science from the Medical University of South Carolina (2008).  She spent her undergraduate years at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. She has taught a wide variety of courses, from beginning Latin to Biology to SAT/ACT prep – with students from second grade to college-age, including private homeschooling.  Some of her favorite things include spending time with family and friends, staying active, and being outdoors.

Marielle is a Christian who loves the Lord above all else. A former engineer, technical training consultant, web designer, technical writer and photography business owner, she left her career to stay home with her children and has been home-schooling the last 12 years. A native of Switzerland, Mrs. Hersey is fluent in four languages. She received a Masters in Education (MA) from the University of Michigan as well as a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Baker University. She has also taught and tutored math classes for the past six years at various locations and is currently the Regional Coordinator for NCFCA.

Early in life JoDette discovered a passion in art by drawing everything she could get her hands on. Her original designs have been represented in a children’s card collection, art shows, and art galleries. JoDette married her husband Chris DiDomizio, owner/operator of a successful art school in Atlanta, DiDomizio’s Art Center, Inc. Jodette is an artist, art teacher, and director of the Children’s Art Program which encompasses ages six through high school. In 2010, she opened a non-profit organization “Art With a Mission, Inc.” which reaches out to orphans and needy families through art fundraisings.

Photography Teacher
Jeremy Harwell has been in love with photography for a very long time! He started as a photojournalist working for newspapers, and then moved on to portrait photography and commercial photography. For the last 11 years he has run his own boutique commercial studio. He has been published in USA Today, New York Times, AJC, Photo District News, Atlanta Magazine, Martha Stewart Weddings, Modern Bride, Inside Weddings, Destination Weddings, Bride’s Magazine and Bride’s UK. He was honored to win PDN’s Rising Star of Photography in 2012, and was named one of World Top Wedding Photographers by Martha Stewart in 2014.

 

Math Teacher
With a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from the University of West Georgia, Cassie has taught high school math in public school as well as serving as a math tutor for middle school through college level. She left her full-time teaching career to begin homeschooling her three children as her oldest child approached kindergarten. She loves to learn and enjoys encouraging high school students to be excited about the plans God has for their lives.

Jodi received her B.S. in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Science and History from Berry College.  Jodi and Mike Worlow have four children with two attending KONOS.  They have homeschooled for the past 11 years and are continually trying to give their children the best education they can provide.  Prior to having children, Jodi taught at a private school for five years.  Educating children is a passion for Jodi, and she is excited to share her love of science with middle school students.

Music Teacher
Carson Thaxton earned his Bachelors of Music Composition at Clayton State University. With this unique music degree he has been trained in not only writing and arranging music but also in music theory. Carson’s personable and light-hearted personality helps students approach music with ease. He has taught, worked with, produced, and directed various musical groups, bands, and individuals for the last two decades. Carson is on staff at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. His teaching philosophy is simple: Teach students to love making music – making music, not just playing notes.

Anatomy & Physiology teacher
Kimberly Wollenhaupt, MD, earned her medical degree from University of Maryland at Baltimore. She completed a medical residency in both Internal Medicine (adult medicine) and Pediatrics at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania. She has been a home educator for 10 years. Her passion is to help others see the wonder of God’s glory through the things He has made.

KONOS Coaches

Athletic Director, Cross Country Coach
Michelle has been running for years (swimming and biking too). After graduating from Troy University, Troy, Alabama, in 1990 with a BS degree in business/marketing, she worked in medical equipment sales as a regional sales manager. Michelle became a stay-home mom in 1999 and has been homeschooling since 2008. Michelle has been competing in triathlons/running events for several years, including a half-iron man and two marathons. Michelle is an active member of the Peachtree City Running Club and would like to see our homeschool community grow in the area of running. She hopes to inspire a love for the sport through cross country. Michelle and her husband, David, have four sons: Levi is currently serving in the United States Army, Joshua and Caleb are graduating seniors at Konos Academy, and Andrew is a rising 8th grader.

Middle School Basketball Coach
Brian Jones is a graduate of the Southeastern College of Wake Forest & Seminary.  He has a B.A. degree in Biblical Studies and a minor in Philosophy.  Brian is the Franchise Owner/Operator of the Chick-fil-A in Doraville, Georgia.  He has coached community basketball and baseball leagues for the past five years. He played multiple years of basketball through middle school, high school, and intramural leagues in college.  He has also refereed multiple years at the high school level. Brian and his wife Brandi have four children that they have homeschooled from birth, two who will be attending KONOS this year.  He is looking forward to this new challenge before him and would love to see everyone out supporting KONOS sports this year! Tamara Lauer has three children attending Konos Academy and her oldest son is a recent graduate of Konos. Tamara played throughout high school and continued playing for a local co-ed team while attending Clayton State University.  Tamara is excited and looking forward to her first year as coach, as well as a fun and focused season on the court.

Varsity Basketball Coach
Thalmus McDowell is currently one of the directors for a youth basketball organization called Georgia Impact. He has coached 10th and 11th  grade athletes in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and is married with three boys. He played throughout high school as well as on an intramural team in college. He started his coaching career with his sons which led to him becoming the head coach for multiple youth teams. Thalmus has a real passion for basketball and is dedicated to improving our program. His desire is to build a program based on competitive sportsmanship.

Soccer Coach
Craig has been coaching youth soccer for 7 years.  Although he played as a youth himself, his passion for the game took shape when he was living in Brazil.  Craig has successfully completed the national soccer association G, F and State E licensing.  He and his wife Ana have two children attending Konos.  Craig has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.  He currently works for Delta Air Lines as an aircraft performance engineer.  His desire is to teach the players Godly life lessons through sports, engaging players to appreciate the importance of hard work and team work both on and off the pitch.
