KONOS ACADEMY (Grades 9-12) KONOS one-day programs offer:
With sufficient training in reading, writing, and reasoning, KONOS ACADEMY students are now ready for high school, college-prep courses. Rather than piecemeal courses, students immerse themselves in a historical period, which integrates all their courses. The focus of 2010 is the Middle Ages (Resurrection through Renaissance). Each year also reviews the big picture of history and geography. My daughter has become such a
competent writer under your tutelage. The scope and depth
of the integrated course of study has provided (our daughter) with an
informed and settled Christian worldview that I wish I'd enjoyed at her
age. History (1 credit) The theme for 2010 is ROOTS. Using a variety of resources we will examine the roots of Western Civilization, starting with Jesus Christ in the Graeco-Roman world, through the development of the early Church and expanding through Europe. Students learn by lecture, personal research, and group presentations. English (1 credit) English literature is coordinated with the history units. We will read and analyze a wide variety of plays, poems, historical fiction, and current works based upon the Middle Ages. Students practice vocabulary, grammar, and composition skills every week. Each student will write poems, stories, essays, and a book of family roots. New Testament/Early Church (.5 credit) Our history course will use the New Testament as an outline for the early years of this period. Students learn and write about the influence of early church martyrs and leaders. Health and Child Development (.5 credit) This required high school course will be approached from a biblical perspective, incorporating basic anatomy, stewardship of the body, and stages of development. Speech and Drama (.5 credit) Every year KONOS students participate in a variety of speeches and a major theatrical performance.
$255 per month ($195 additional student) To enroll: New applications are reviewed starting March 4. Space is limited. Print and fill out this application form (PDF file) and send with enrollment fee. Send materials fees and fees for supplementary courses by June 15.
